Inks are used in the commercial sector to create a broad spectrum of advertising and promotional materials: posters, banners, shop boards, point-of-sale signage, and much more. However, it is important to understand that not all of these inks are alike.
While all inks can be used indoors, some are more suited for exterior applications. Some inks may offer special colors or effects. You should choose only safe, durable, high-quality inks. Thankfully, that is what we offer at Mimaki.
Mimaki produces a wide range of original inks that can be used for the Sign and Graphics, Textile & Apparel, and Industrial Product markets which also includes 3D. Our product inventory includes eco-solvent, water-based, and UV inks for printing and creating applications. When it comes to finding the right ink, there are plenty of options in our extensive catalog.
UV-LED inks are a well-rounded option for interior and exterior applications. UV inks cure instantly enabling immediate delivery, and can be printed on virtually any coated or uncoated surface. They can be used for a range of applications such as wallpaper, canvas art, and tapestries. Exterior options include signage, vehicle wraps, decorative applications, and much, much more!
UV inks are noted for excellent control of opacity, sharp contrast, superior light reflection,, smear resistance, chemical resistance, quick production speeds, and consistency of image quality. These inks dry instantly when exposed to a UV curing unit built on to the printer. As a result, they can be “layered” to create dimensional effects like 2.5D printing of “stacked” to create 3 dimensional objects.
There are three kinds of UV-LED inks: rigid, flexible, and thermoforming. Our UV curable inks conform to the highest industry standards. Click the links provided below for more information on these versatile, instant curing inks.

Eco-solvent inks are the most commonly used inks for long-term exterior applications such as signage and vehicle graphics. They are the most durable of all three ink types and can be fixed to uncoated media.
Eco-solvent inks are widely favored by individuals and organizations seeking to reduce their environmental impact. They work through a rapid chemical process and have fairly low requirements for use. For that reason, they can be safely used within enclosed spaces, although it's best to have good ventilation in smaller areas. They are well suited for indoor signage.
Compared with traditional solvent-based inks, Eco-solvent inks give off only faint odors and they ensure less frequent cleaning of inkjet nozzles. They also offer superior scratch, weather, and chemical resistance. See below for more information on these high-quality inks.
Water-based inks are used for signage and fabric printing. They have the highest color potential and are well suited for indoor applications or multi-use fabrics. These inks are typically printed on a coated or pre-treated media.
This type of ink essentially uses water to deliver pigments instead of other carriers used in other inks. Depending on the process, it can take longer for water-based ink to dry vs UV or Solvent. They are often preferred by businesses searching for the highest color capability, and the most eco-friendly printing.
